A Lucano evening · Championship week
out of view
The best things are hidden. This is the evening you see them.
The idea
A coastline you can't see from the road. A lobster from a reef most people never reach. A wine from an island you can only get to by boat. None of it is hidden — it's just not visible from where most people stand.
“Corfu grew so many olive trees that the villages disappeared inside the groves — and the island had to import almost everything else.”
Tell that story on Bermuda and it isn't a charming aside. It's the reason Lucano exists. For one evening, we move you four times, into the places where these things become visible.
The evening
The course empties after the third round. A glass in hand at last light, where the cameras pointed all day.
An hour along the coast aboard Odyssey as the sun goes down. Aperitivo, and a Mediterranean board on deck.
We tie up at The Waterlot's own dock and walk in from the sea. Almost nobody arrives at dinner this way.
Down into The Waterlot's private wine cellar for four courses, each with its story. Home by 11:30.
Collected from your hotel or home, and driven back. Times are approximate.
The table
White · with I and II
From Porquerolles, a small island off the Riviera reached only by boat. An island wine for guests who just arrived by water.
Red · with III
From the Tuscan coast at Bolgheri. The Ornellaia bottle most people walk past on the way to the famous ones.
Menu and vintages may vary with the season and the catch. Tell us about dietary needs when you book.
Everything included
You go home with a box of the evening: the oil, the peppers, the kumquats, Bermuda honey and salt, each with its producer's name — and one recipe to cook it all again.
Your host
From Matera, in Basilicata — a city that lived for centuries in caves most of Italy pretended weren't there. Lucano brings that part of the Mediterranean to Bermuda: the food, the product, and the habit of making something good from what the land and the sea allow.
“I don't cook tonight. I chose everything on the table, and I'll tell you why it's there.”
Cooked by the kitchen of The Waterlot. The boat by Odyssey Charters.
